« I’m inspired by timeless looks, features that could be from today but also from another time»

What is your signature?

To cast for strong, yet beautiful people.

What is the most complicated task ever demanded of you?

When I casted for a men’s fashion show SS2013, that was a quite spectacular show. All the male models were confirmed, and came to their fitting to try on their looks and shoes. It turned out that the shoes were not ordinary shoes, but made out of silver metal. We quickly found out that almost none of the 40 models fitted the shoes, and I had to cancel the majority and find new models to fit them. We did find our 40 Cinderella’s after all.

What do you find fun about your job?

The creativity and the diversity of the projects, working on editorials, campaigns and shows. One project is never like another.

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by timeless looks, features that could be from today but also from another time. Interesting looks attracts me.

And the job that you won’t forget?

I will never forget the casting I did for System magazine, a Dior special shot by Juergen Teller at Chateau de Versaille. The agent to one of the confirmed models, Ally Ertel, informed me that unfortunately Ally would not be available for the shooting because she broke her leg during fashion week. Well that’s perfect, Juergen will like that, I said. So finally Ally was shot with a broken leg sitting in a wheel chair and the result was beautiful.

What do you see as modern in today’s casting ?

The diversity that we see today. There are not really any rules for who could become a model and I find it more interesting and creative.
